International Campus AG opens student residence “THE FIZZ Berlin”

  • Next student accommodation opens in Berlin’s Mitte district, following the apartment houses in Bremen and Freiburg
  • 95 per cent of the 212 one- and two-room apartments already leased
  • The next property in the International Campus pipeline, “THE FIZZ Frankfurt”, set to open its doors in the first quarter of 2015

International Campus AG has opened “THE FIZZ Berlin”. The student residence on Köpenicker Straße in Berlin’s Mitte district is a joint venture with the Gädeke & Sons Group. Over 95 per cent of the 212 high-quality, fully furnished one- and two-room apartments across six floors have already been leased, several weeks before the semesters at Berlin’s universities begin. On average, the apartments are 21 square metres in size and are equipped with a kitchenette and a modern bathroom.

Horst Lieder, CEO of International Campus AG: “This is further testament to the fact that we are on the right path with our “THE FIZZ” concept and product. We are right on the button with the latest trends.” Lieder continues: “Our location on Köpenicker Straße in the city centre of Berlin is very up-and-coming; there’s a lot going on here. We would love to extend our development expertise to the adjacent site, the former “Eisfabrik” area. We already have a number of specific usage concepts sustainable over the long term.”

“THE FIZZ Berlin” is located at the heart of Berlin and offers a number of community spaces, including seminar rooms, a cooking area, a lounge as well as a laundry room. A house coordinator makes sure everything runs smoothly and safely. The all-in rents, which include electricity, heating, water, furnishings, internet access, use of community spaces and all ancillary charges, start at €495 per month.

Felix Gädeke from the Gruppe Gädeke & Sons: “The segment student housing has massive, untapped potential in the capital. Demand for compact, well-designed and fully equipped residential property is huge among students, but also among young professionals and commuters. That’s why student residency is so attractive to investors and the private equity segment, not just in Berlin but across all of Germany’s metropolises.”

Berlin’s four universities, three art academies, seven universities of applied sciences and several-dozen private academies host a total of 164,728 young people. Three of Berlin’s four universities are “Universities of Excellence”. Roughly 16 per cent of students come to Berlin from abroad. Halls of residence in the German capital offer accommodation for 9,411 students.

After Bremen and Freiburg, Berlin is the third “THE FIZZ” location for International Campus AG. Further student residences are currently being developed in Darmstadt, Hamburg, Hanover, Frankfurt II and Frankfurt’s Gallus district, which is set to open in the first quarter of 2015.
