International Campus Opens New Student Apartment Block,
THE FIZZ Freiburg Mitte
The International Campus Group (IC), a leading developer and operator of Micro Living concepts in Northern Europe just opened its new “THE FIZZ Freiburg Mitte” in time for the start of the winter semester 2021 / 2022. The six-storey student apartment block is located on Habsburger Strasse in the inner city of Freiburg, a short walk from the main campus buildings of Freiburg University. It offers extensive community areas and 344 fully equipped apartments for single- and double occupancy whose rooms range from 18 to 58 square metres in size. Twelve of the apartments are rent-controlled. THE FIZZ Freiburg Mitte extends over a gross floor area (GFA) of 15,200 square metres, and divides into two building sections: one perimeter block building with a captivating façade, and an atrium in the inner courtyard. The underground car park provides 74 car and 350 bicycle parking spots. For IC, this is actually the second apartment building for students in this campus town, after having opened THE FIZZ Zähringen with 149 apartments in 2014.
“We are very glad we managed to open our state-of-the-art house in Freiburg in time for the semester that is about to start, and have been welcoming our first tenants since early August. Freiburg is a leafy and lively campus town with a long history that attracts thousands of new students from inside and outside Germany every year. Plenty of reason for us to open another THE FIZZ in Freiburg,” said Michael Stump, Chief Operations Officer of the IC Group.
“International Campus developed this asset for its own portfolio. Going forward, we will keep building our own properties and acquiring suitable property developments in attractive university cities, including smaller ones,” said Rainer Nonnengässer, Executive Chairman of the IC Group.
International Campus counts among the Micro Living pioneers, and recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. Today, you will find THE FIZZ in Aachen, Berlin, Bremen, Darmstadt, Frankfurt, Freiburg, Hanover, Munich, Prague and Vienna. This coming fall, another innovative residential product will come on-stream in Hamburg that is intended for professionals and called HVNS.
Roughly 24,000 students were enrolled at the University of Freiburg for the winter semester 2019 / 2020, with 18 percent of the students coming from abroad, and nearly 53 percent of them being female. The university offers classes in a total of 288 degree programs, taught at 100 institutes. Freiburg im Breisgau has a population of nearly 231,000 residents (as 31/12/2020).
