The International Campus Group (IC), one of the leading investors, developers, owners and operators of student housing and urban living concepts in Europe, celebrated the completion of the refurbishment of THE FIZZ Bremen at Universitätsallee 1 last Friday. Originally opened in 2012, the student residence was the very first property under the THE FIZZ brand and marks the starting point of what has since become International Campus’ pan-European portfolio. Over the past months, the building has undergone an extensive refurbishment. With the completion of these measures, International Campus is investing in the long-term future of the property while creating a contemporary living environment tailored to the needs of today’s students. The completion of the project was celebrated together with residents and numerous invited guests.
Located directly on the campus of the University of Bremen, the residence opened for the 2012/13 winter semester and offers 335 fully furnished apartments, which are currently fully occupied. Around 75 percent of residents are international students, while the remaining 25 percent come from Germany.
The refurbishment focused on a comprehensive upgrade of the quality of living and common areas. All apartments were modernised and technically upgraded. This included new beds and mattresses, new desks and desk chairs, modern lighting, new curtains and additional TV sideboards. The kitchens were also refurbished, including new worktops, fronts, sinks, fittings, cutlery systems and induction hobs.
A key element of the refurbishment was the replacement of 76 bay windows, which were completely redesigned and reconstructed. In addition, the apartments were fitted with modular picture rails featuring integrated pinboards, giving residents greater flexibility to personalise their living spaces.
At the same time, all communal areas were completely redesigned. The refurbishment introduced a modern communal kitchen, a new study room with shared workspaces, a dedicated gaming area, a newly designed laundry lounge, a contemporary reception area, and new lounge spaces that encourage social interaction and community.
The outdoor areas were also comprehensively upgraded. The landscaped garden now features, among other amenities, a table tennis table, a new BBQ area, additional terrace furniture and a calisthenics rig for outdoor exercise. A further highlight is the permanent Community Bus – a converted vintage bus that serves as a unique social hub and meeting place for residents.
“The refurbishment of THE FIZZ Bremen is a targeted investment in the long-term attractiveness and quality of this location. The property holds a special place in our history, as it was here, around 15 years ago, that the International Campus story began,” says Geraldine Lade, Marketing Manager at International Campus. “Our goal is not only to provide students with contemporary accommodation, but also to create an environment that fosters community, well-being and academic success. These extensive improvements ensure that we continue to meet the high expectations of our residents while further enhancing the overall living experience for the long term.”
With 335 apartments, THE FIZZ Bremen is one of the largest privately operated student housing properties in the immediate vicinity of the University of Bremen. Monthly rents start at approximately €800 and include all utility costs as well as high-speed internet.
